Sharon Miller Memorial Foundation

Sharon Miller Memorial Foundation (SMMF) has a heart and a passion to see lives changed in Kubula, Kenya.

The aim and mission of the Sharon Miller Memorial Foundation (SMMF) is to work closely with with Strong Tower Foundation, to teach women that find themselves in a lonely place, by either being abandoned, divorced or widowed, to thrive.

We do this by teaching them to grow crops on the land that they have around their homes, instruct them on animal husbandry.

Sharon set up the charity Strong Tower Foundation in Kenya and used to visit regularly along with other team members.

The memorial foundation (SMMF) was set up when Sharon died so that the work could continue in Kenya.

Our charity has strong trustees in place to ensure they charity operates in its best capacity and has recently added more to the things it provides, as shown below.

TEACHING WOMEN

We support women to be self-sufficient by teaching them new skills, these skills include:

🌱  – Grow small crops on the land and how to gather plants to make fertilizer

🐔🐐 – How to care for animals, like chickens and goats

📿   – The women also make bags and purses which they sell to add to their income

All the women graduate, upon completion of the course each woman receives a certificate of completion, a bag of flour, a bag sugar, a goat or a chicken.

We encourage the ladies to work together to breed the animals as another form of income which helps to promote self-sufficiency of income.

PERIOD POVERTY

We are fighting Period Poverty in rural Kenya, providing and supplying sanitary wear to young girls, who would  miss out on their education due to inadequate sanitary wear.

We go into 4 schools and hand out sanitary products.

As part of this mission, we have managed to find a local company that makes and supplies reusable sanitary pads, these are about £10 for a pack of 3 pads, underwear, soap and washcloth.

SAFE CIRCUMCISION

Boys’ health is something we have been asked to help with. Boys, when they reach 12 are circumcised, for cultural and health reasons.

For the cost of just £25 per boy they can be safely circumcised and given a precautionary course of antibiotics.

We also support the boys with underwear as well as crayons and pencils.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

School uniforms make all the children on a level playing field when they are at school.

For a complete primary aged child’s uniform, including underwear and shoes, it averages about £25 for the year.

Most of these children are partial orphans apart from a few who are living with grand parents because either their parents separated or they were born as a result of an unwanted pregnancy.

Ways to help/give:

Every charity is set up to raise funds, so you will not be surprised to read that a donation would help significantly, but prayers help too.  If you have read this far on our webpage you will have an idea of how much the Kenyan ladies and children need our help and will be able to pray into their lives.

If you can provide funds, big or small they help so much – you might want to gift £5 to buy a chicken (not the type we buy in the supermarket!), the details are as follows:
